Stuck Feelings
Decline the Payoff
Spot the secret reward in a stuck feeling and choose to give it up.

Why this helps
We hold onto feelings because the ego draws a secret payoff from them — that's why they persist.
In the moment
Naming the payoff loosens the grip immediately.
Over time
Fewer feelings stick, because you stop feeding them.
The practice
The ego draws a secret reward — a "juice" — from its favorite states: the righteousness of anger, the comfort of self-pity, the safety of being the victim, the thrill of being right. Letting go gets much easier once you spot the payoff honestly and choose to decline it.
When to use it
- A grievance or resentment you keep rehearsing
- Self-pity or "poor me" loops
- Needing to be right in an old argument
Instructions
- Notice the stuck feeling you keep returning to.
- Ask: what am I getting out of holding this? (Being right, pitied, safe, justified.)
- Admit the payoff without shame — everyone has them.
- Choose to give it up, and let the feeling go with it.
